A NETWORK OF WISHES
The most varied forms of interpersonal relationship and the creation of networks are recurring issues in Angela Dorrer's works. Using interdisciplinary methods, she explores how communities are created or produced in that she interacts with various "communities". A "community" defines itself as "a society" of people that has assembled from the same or similar motifs (….). Culture is legible in the "game of symbols." In religion or politics, rituals are installed to stabilize communication and memory of a culture, to give people a group solidarity and identity. The society as a location of ritualized interpretation has, however, largely dissolved in anonymous individuals. The search for meaning, stability and orientation in these virtual, real and spiritual societies wins, however, exponentially in meaning. Angela Dorrer deals with this phenomenon in that she utilizes her artistic work as a ritual energy carrier with a catalytic effect. She standardizes a ritual, but not in its original sense. In its adaptations, she allows it to be repeatedly experienced, to lend expression to one of her main interests: putting new forms of communication into motion. The artist increasingly acquires not only objects, but also various social roles from the outside world: as a coach, moderator, critic, etc. The adoption of outside roles means authorizing these roles in the sense of taking on individual responsibility and authorship for societal practices.
